Bathroom Makeover Ideas That Won’t Break Your Bank

Fixing up your bathroom on a budget may seem like an unachievable feat. However, it is a common misconception that compromises in quality and luxury need to be made in order to keep the bank balance above zero.

Yes, you may not be able to get that deluxe spa you so desperately desire for those Sunday night soaks, but Megasealed can get you that same sense of relaxation at a fraction of the cost. You just need to be thinking smart not hard, as they say.

Think rejuvenation, not renovation

Bathroom rejuvenation begins with the tiles. If your tiles are still in good condition all they might need is an inexpensive makeover. Start with a little gumption and a lot of elbow grease and try to give those tiles a DIY deep clean. If your tiles are still looking tired a simple re-grout is perhaps the next best step.

Re-grouting can be a bit of a challenge if your husband isn’t the handy man he claims to be as it requires some finesse and a grout saw. This is where Megasealed come in. Our professional re-grouting service is not only affordable it uses the best, scientifically tested solution on the market – Megagrout MG14. Not to mention a team with over 25 years experience. Tile and grout cleaning are indisputably our bread and butter.

The next step in bathroom rejuvenation is to remove mould from ceilings and walls. In 99% of cases mould can be removed with affordable, easy-to-find, soap-based products. However, you should always prepare for that 1% of instances that quickly turns your bathroom rejuvenation into a bathroom renovation and can run you anywhere upwards of $15,000.

To ensure you avoid this 1%, a high-quality sealant is the way to go in preventing leaks which can cause a build up of mould. Megasealed’s Megaflex sealant is one of the most durable sealants on the market, so much so that we guarantee you a 5 year product warranty.

However, if DIY mould removal isn’t really your style, we provide professional mould removal that is convenient and cost effective.

The last step in bathroom rejuvenation is fixing any leaks you may have. This is arguably the most important step as a simple leak can lead to a plethora of expensive and time-consuming problems.

Here at Megasealed we specialise in the non-destructive repair of leaking showers, so why not call us today on 1300 658 007 for a FREE in-home quote.

If you follow these simple rejuvenation steps your bathroom will look and feel as luxurious as your favourite day spa, minus the cost (and unfortunately the masseuse).

Bathroom Inspection Checklist

Never judge a book by its cover, but always judge a home by its bathroom.

As a buyer or seller, a bathroom has the potential to make or break your final decision, this is because it’s one of the key problem areas of any property. As you may well know, bathrooms are prone to leakage ultimately leading to moisture, mould and if left untreated, mayhem.

So, here are Megasealed’s tips to turn your bathroom from a deal breaker into a deal maker.
A little bathroom rejuvenation before an inspection can be as simple and easy as a cosmetic fix, so get out a rag and some Brasso and polish that steel to a high shine. Alternatively, you can save yourself the hassle and call the experts at Megasealed to either degrout, regrout and remove mouldy silicone.

Sometimes however, there are much more sinister problems at large, such as a leaking shower. While a leak may look like an easy fix the case is often much more difficult and costly.

Is your bathroom smelling musty, is the paint peeling off the walls, is it damp and mouldy? If your answer is, yes. Perhaps hold off on the open houses until this is remedied.

The first step is to identify the source of the leak. With Megasealed’s non-invasive thermal imaging technology, we can save you unnecessary trouble and expense when it comes to identifying the source of the problem, without removing tiles.

If the source of the leak is internal you might need a new waterproofing membrane. Megasealed have the shower waterproofing experts to fix this problem as quickly and cost-effectively as possible. We even do the clean-up.

Chipped and decaying grout is also a red flag for a potential buyer. At Megasealed our regrout solution is ideal to give your bathroom that ‘new’ look.

When it comes to bathrooms, we know it’s easy to cut corners, but a leak can compromise the very foundations of your property, and any potential buyer isn’t willing to gamble on your DIY bathroom. Contact a Megasealed professional today and let your bathroom sell itself. Going, going, gone!

Certain areas of our homes are susceptible to slips and falls. Polished floorboards and glossy tiles frequently used on staircases and in bathrooms are examples of surfaces that can cause a tumble.Slips can occur anywhere, from showers and floors to pathways, balconies, walkways, and foyers. In fact, injuries as a result of a slip are so common that slip-resistant requirements in residential and commercial properties are now mandatory.

Anti-Slip coating

We cannot bubble wrap the beautiful features that make our homes striking, but there IS something we can do to prevent the chances of a fall while still maintaining the aesthetics of our interiors. That solution is Anti-Slip. Anti-Slip tiles and coatings increase safety and prevent accidents via their specially developed slip resistant coatings.

Megasealed’s anti-slip coating solution Megagrip caters to all surfaces across all environments - aged care facilities, retirement homes, gyms, pools, hotels, commercial kitchens, residential properties, and child care facilities. Used for renovations or new construction of smooth floors, especially in wet areas.

3. Megagrip™ Heavy Duty (CSIRO Very High Anti-Slip rating)

Megaclean Green – Household Grade Tile and Bathroom Cleaner

Are kitchen and bathroom tiles your worst cleaning nightmare? We’re betting on a yes.
Tile grout seems to incessantly attract dirt and grime, building up in between the margins of your tiles, causing mould and discoloration, while soap scum builds up on bathroom tiles, trapping dirt as it dries and producing undesirable odors. Bathroom waterproofing

We’ve all tried various solutions to this timeless issue - baking soda, lemon juice, bleach, vinegar, top of the line cleaners….the list goes on. Instead of sitting around waiting for a magical solution to fall into our hands, we took some initiative and developed our own instead.

Containing pure eucalyptus essential oils, a natural disinfectant, purifier, and deodoriser, this killer combo is tough on grime, mould and soap scum.  We’re conscious of today’s excessive waste, so we have made our Megaclean Green packaging bio-degradable, meaning you can throw away the packaging knowing that it will not cause any harm to the environment.

A Leak free home? Yes, please!

Leak Detection

Is water leakage ruining your walls, floors, ceilings or balconies? Is it invading the electrical areas causing short circuits and compromising your safety? Is your house simply just suffering from general wear and tear? If so, don’t let it come to that.
If you’re not happy with the current state of your house due to water seepage, a home renovation may be just what’s required. Home renovations can reverse the damage caused by leakage, however, to avoid similar occurrences, extra precautions must be taken. We’ve shared a list of our top tips to consider during your home renovation below:
  •  Don’t compromise on quality: If you skim on the cost of materials now, you may end up paying big bucks for repairs later. Invest in sturdy, reputable plumbing supplies and reap the benefits of a secure, quality home later.
  • Get to the root of the problem: While remodeling your house you may find previous leaks - NOW is the time to fix them. Be thorough in your plumbing investigation and source the right solutions, you will thank yourself later.
  •  Hire a professional: Sure, there are many plumbers out there who can do the job, but how many can provide the insight, training, knowledge, and skill of an expert plumber? Highly trained professionals deliver specialist advice while completing works wholly and effectively, ensuring plumbing issues don’t resurface down the track.
  •  Check the pipeline: Sometimes the problem isn’t the pipes in your house but a pipeline connecting multiple houses. Don’t risk having your newly renovated home damaged due to an issue in the connecting pipeline. Engage a professional to conduct a careful inspection – more often than not, issues stemming from neighboring homes can be found that affect the workings of your own home.
  • Megasealed delivers a broad range of bathroom rejuvenation and renovation services at affordable prices that don’t compromise on quality. Home renovations can be daunting, but they don’t HAVE to be - we’re here to guide you through it. Our team of talented experts systematically analyse, plan, and offer educated solutions to your plumbing needs and requirements in a professional and transparent manner.

5 Reasons Why Balconies Leak

A balcony collapse is not as uncommon as you may think. Frequently used areas of our homes require solid foundations, appropriate material choices, and quality finishes.
Realistically, very few of us have the time and resources to conduct careful examinations throughout the construction or renovation of our home. While we like to think a job is completed with competency, often proper sequencing and installation are compromised. These flaws in construction can cause leaking and water seepage throughout our homes, including our balconies.

Primary causes of a balcony leak:

Ceramic tiles with few expansion margins
Well grouted ceramic tiles are great however if there are a few expansion margins left between the joints, they can be the cause of a balcony failure. The tiles, when exposed to heat, are likely to expand, resulting in compression of the joints and causing tiles to lift and leave entries for water. Poor installation of tiles with inadequate expansion joints are a chief cause of balcony leakage.

      Cracked or missing grouting
Grouting is a key component of thorough balcony construction. Cracked or missing grouting from corners and between tiles can be detrimental to the structure of a building. Even a small crack in the grouting can result in water seepage. A drenched balcony is likely to absorb water through cracked or missing grouting. Grouting must not be overlooked in construction, it is fundamental to the longevity of a structure.

      Improper slopes
The poorly thought out slope of a balcony can cause water to pool, triggering a slow drip inside the structural material. Subsequently, it compromises the waterproofing of the balcony and increases leaking issues. When constructing a balcony, the slope must track away from the building so that water can stay clear of joints.

      Sealant
Sealants prevent water infiltration and must be used on windows, doors, trims, flashing and more. Sealant requires periodic inspection and maintenance to keep joints secure from water infiltration. A quality sealant can last for 20 years, however, if not maintained can be a major cause of leakage.

      Flashings
Flashing is a form of weatherproofing. According to building codes, flashings keep framing membrane and sheathing uncompromised. Flashings play an important role in building exteriors such as windows, doors, piping, joints, etc. Flashing is a sheet of thin material which prevents water flow into the structure. No flashing = water penetration and seepage.

5 Tips For Choosing The Right Bathroom Tile

grout replacement
Choosing the right bathroom tile requires careful deliberation. Factors such as colour, shape, size, design, and finish all need to be considered when selecting a suitable product. Tiles are the perfect element to give a statement look to your bathroom, however, with thousands of tiles on the market one can get overwhelmed with choice.

Make the right choice by reflecting on these tips when picking your ideal tile.

Tips For Choosing The Right Bathroom Tile

Focus On The Size

Tiles are available in a wide range of materials including ceramic, natural stone, glass, and concrete, and come in an even wider range of sizes. Large tiles are a sensible choice when considering consistency in appearance, grout replacement, and cleaning. Small tiles can be more visually interesting in terms of the arrangement but require more grout lines which essentially means more cleaning. A good directive is to select tiles relative to the size of your bathroom.

Balance Combinations

Visual appearance is important; however, it is easy to go overboard selecting multiple different tile variations to mix and match in your bathroom. Overloading the bathroom with various sizes, textures, and colours may fail to give the desired look. We suggest limiting your selection to two or three different styles in a neutral colour scheme. Small spaces with an overabundance of color and design can both overwhelm and date very quickly.

Focus On Tiles With Shared Dimension

When considering tiles, consider their dimensions. If you are selecting multiple tiles, ensure their sizes are a multiple of each other for ease of installation and a visually pleasing finish. For example, 12 x 12-inch tiles combine with 4 x 4-inch tiles and 1 x 1-inch tiles. These sizes accurately line up without any headache, and grouting will remain uniform and neat.

Texture

Texture in crucial when selecting bathroom waterproofing tiles. Floor and wall tiles are very different. Smooth and glazed tiles are slippery when wet but are easy to clean. In this sense, smooth tiles are ideal for bathroom walls. On the other hand, textured tiles are ideal for bathroom floors as they maintain grip underfoot, reducing the chances of a slip.

Grouting Completes Tile Installation

The trend of selecting simple, neutral tiles and applying bright grouting to give a playful look to the bathroom is ongoing. However, is it practical? Grouting lines can be extremely difficult to clean. Installing darker tiles with a contrasting light-colored grouting may not be a sensible course to take. To avoid countless hours of cleaning, apply grouting with a similar colour tone that blends well with your choice of tile.

Sure, there are a lot of factors to consider when you go tile shopping but apply the above sensible choices and you’ll be left with a bathroom you just love to look at.
